Wallets
Before leather wallets became known, leather pouches were more serviceable because coins were the only currency known. Wallets first came into being during the seventeenth century soon after paper currency, which was then made of corn paper, became widely used in the West. The earliest leather wallets were very resilient, and they were made out of cow or horse skin.
Modern leather wallets are not very different from the leather wallets in the past except for the card slots that became popular after credit cards were created in 1951. About the only notable change in wallets was probably in the '70s when Velcro became popular. Now, you'll see wallets made from different materials in all shapes and sizes and for a variety of purposes.
There are wallets slim enough to be noticeable. This is to discourage theft. There are also wallets that come with a string and you can hang it around your neck to conceal the wallet under your clothes.
